Finding your voice in paint:

technique, marks, and problem solving on the canvas

“During my teaching career, the most common desires I hear from students are: to find my voice and create a cohesive body of work. These have become such buzz phrases. What exactly do they mean? How can we accomplish these things? And if we manage to, what will it do for our creative lives or prospective careers? Will it be what we hope?”

And since 2020 Felicia has offered private creative coaching online - helping artists do just that! Find their voices, build effective and satisfying practices, and create cohesive bodies of work. She now brings the coaching and the technical training together into a live class setting.

Your voice is found in both the small actions in paint: technique, marks, and problem solving in paint, as well as in the subject matter and overarching themes you choose. You uncover these essential characteristics in your work by strengthening intuition, calming the nervous system and allowing curiosity to inspire the structure of your practice.

This class is studio style (practical). Each week you will engage in painting a model in a scene. The practice/assignment will remain the same and around that structure you grow and develop your skill, taste, and voice. Felicia offers guidance in the form of advice, philosophy, and demonstration as you need it throughout this practice.

Wherever you are on this creative continuum, beginner to advanced Felicia will work with you to set goals, practice, and grow.

2. Finding your voice through building a cohesive body of work:

Subject matter, overarching themes, and tying it all together.

Dates and times TBA

Colorspace Arts- El Cerrito, CA

When you feel ready to move past the honing of technique we will have you work on your personal project/vision with the goal of building a cohesive body of work. I will be your sounding-board and advisor as you explore.

This process is about accessing intuition, passion, and desire and then balancing it with order. We will utilize curiosity and build self awareness to create work that is unique to you, cohesive, and fully realized. This process can take different lengths of time for each artist. You may come in for a boost or stay until the work is complete, it’s up to you.
