FAQ for Workshops with Felicia Forte

Curriculum- Felicia’s in person workshops are studio style (practical). Each day you will engage in creating an alla prima study from life after Felicia’s demonstration. Felicia offers guidance in the form of technical advice, philosophy, and demonstration.

Medium- Felicia’s technical expertise lies in oil paint, she can teach a beginner how to use and master the medium. She is also happy to have students use other types of mediums in her classes as long as they are already proficient in the use of them.

What is the tone of the class? Felicia’s classes are for painters with serious curiosity and desire to learn. She welcomes beginners and amateurs as well as advanced or professional painters. This is a master craft, expect that learning it can be challenging and engaging.

A note for beginners- This craft is learned through making paintings. They will be “bad” for a long time, that is the same for everyone who has ever learned this craft. There are many skills to learn that must eventually be accomplished in concert to produce a technically masterful painting. Be comfortable with being uncomfortable, come with a child’s mind for learning.

How do I know if this is a good fit for me? You should find a teacher who’s work and vibe resonates with you. If there’s some aspect of Felicia’s painting that you would like to learn and incorporate into your own skill-set, then this is a good fit. Check out Felicia’s social media to see if you resonate with her teaching style.

What can I expect to gain from this workshop? To learn to paint you will need to practice regularly, for years. When the workshop is complete, you will take away what works for you and leave what does not. If you are doing it right, you will be trying new things that are out of your comfort zone. This will mean that unless you are very advanced, you may have a bunch of awkward sketches instead of finished paintings by the end. The knowledge/methods that are suited for you will integrate into your practice in time, back in your own painting space.
